When to Repaint Your Home's Exterior in Central Ohio's Climate

• Wood siding & trim: 5–7 years

• Aluminum siding: 7–10 years
• Vinyl (when painted): 8–10 years with proper bonding primer
• Brick (painted): 8–12 years for body, 5–7 for trim

Warning signs you're due

• Chalking — wipe a finger across the siding; if it picks up powder, the binder has broken down
• Cracking or alligatoring — usually a south- or west-facing failure
• Caulk lines splitting at trim joints — water is getting behind the paint
• Faded color on south side, normal on north — UV is winning
• Peeling near the foundation — moisture wicking up, prep before repaint

The best time of year to paint exterior in Columbus

Late April through mid-October is the safe window. The sweet spots are May–June and September–early October — mild temps, low humidity, fewer thunderstorms.
